Altcar Ranges are unique in that they are the only major ranges owned by a Reserve Forces & Cadets Association. The land was given by Lord Sefton and first used for the Grand Lancashire Rifle Contest on Monday, 29 October 1860.

Morecambe Rifle and Pistol Club visits Altcar Rifle ranges about 6 times per year. This gives our members the opportunity to shoot full bore Rifles, including Black powder rifles at ranges of 300 and 600 yards.
The Club has its own weapons for use by club menbers who do not possess their own full bore rifle.

During 2013 we have had some cracking days out and good turnouts from club members, many of whom have made their first visits to Altcar.  Below are some pictures and postings taking thoughout the year, and more can be found on the Gallery page.  We are happy to confirm the 2014 dates above.

19/06/13
The club made another trip to Altcar on Sunday 16 June and what a day it was! The sun was shining and there was hardly a breeze. Perfect shooting conditions! A great day had by all, including myself, for my last Altcar visit before I head off to Canada.

MR&PC made it's first visit of the year to Altcar Ranges on Sunday 14th April. There was a good turn out and apart from the slightest of splatterings and a blustery gale the weather managed to stay reasonable for us. We were scheduled for 'C' Range but instead shot on the 300 yard 'B' Range.

14th APRIL 500yds ‘C’ RANGE

12th MAY 500yds ‘C’ RANGE

16th JUNE 300yds ‘B’ RANGE

21st JULY 600yds ‘C’ RANGE

18th AUGUST 300yds ‘B-C’ RANGE

Please note, these are subject to change or cancellation as the Army take priority on any weekend.

We will require numbers and a list of people who want to go, on the Friday two weeks before the arranged date. If there is not enough to run the day it will be cancelled as we have to cancel two weeks before the date arranged.

Once we have a list of people who wish to go
for each date, a charge of £5 will levied on each person, this is non-refundable. The reason for this, is that, if subsequently we have to cancel after the two week notice period, due to people changing there minds and not going, we will be charged our portion of any overtime incurred on that day.

We need to show our support along with all the other clubs and use Altcar as much as possible. Apart from Bisley, Altcar is one of the finest out door ranges in the country which is available for civilian clubs to use.
